1919 Lawn Party and Open House: 8th Annual “Gala Day”
Visit us this summer as we host the 8th annual”Gala Day”. The very first “Gala Day & Garden Party Bazaar” was held at The Nurse Homestead in 1912 right after becoming a Museum, and they continued to be held annually through the 1920’s! It was a way to welcome the community to explore the historic house, to learn about local history, and just enjoy the beautiful grounds on a summer day.
This year we are taking you back to the year 1919 to experience what the original Gala Days were like, complete with the original entrance fee of only 25¢ !
You will be able to explore the home of Rebecca Nurse, listen to popular music from the 1900’s, try your hand at playing period-style lawn games, and talk with reenactors dressed in Edwardian fashion. We will also be serving our famous Strawberry Shortcakes we used to serve at our Strawberry Festival years ago, as well as other snacks and refreshments. (Check back here or on Facebook for more updates to our activities schedule)
Rain Date for this event will be June 16th
